PREVIOUS: 5 Tips for architects choosing a wordpress theme
2013 has seen a lot of great WordPress themes released that are going to be perfect for architects and other project based industries. Below I’ve listed some of the best ones I’ve found, but before I list them I want to let you know two of the big things that I was looking for in this collection.
All of the themes below include features for portfolios and projects. They also provide links to a dedicated project page, rather than just using a pop up box to display a photo. This is really important because the project page and the type of information on it is the heart of an architects site. It’s where “the story is told” and it’s where the media will find out about your architecture and also link back to your site. So if the theme didn’t do this well it didn’t get in.
All the themes are responsive themes, which means they stretch to suite the size of the viewers screen and are mobile friendly. Smart phone and tablet ready themes have exploded in the last six months which is obviously because of the large numbers of people viewing websites on these devices. For example, 20% of the traffic on Websites for Architects is via a mobile device. This is why I updated the site’s theme this year and is something that every architect who is thinking about updating their site, or building a new one should consider mandatory.
